Yesterday, we went 1-1. Admittedly, the Spain bet was a pretty bad loss. Croatia played out of their minds and came up with a huge, game-saving block of Pau Gasol on the final play of the game.
Spain did not look impressive and I will look at them with skepticism going forward. Bojan Bogdanovic of the Brooklyn Nets led the Croatians with 23 points.
As I predicted, Argentina cruised easily, beating Nigeria 94-66.
My first pick for today is Australia (+170) over Serbia.
Australia (+170)
Australia opened Olympic play with an impressive 87-66 over France, and they looked good. Andrew Bogut dominated in the paint. Matthew Dellavedova dished out 10 assists. Patty Mills got hot early and never looked back.
And France is not a bad team with the likes of Tony Parker, Nicolas Batum, Rudy Gobert and Boris Diaw. They went undefeated in qualifying and knocked Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson and the Canadians out of the Olympics.
Serbia's 2016 Olympic team has proven absolutely nothing. They are coming off an opening round win against Venezuela, which might be the worst team in the tournament. They also played absolutely nobody in qualifying, their most impressive win coming against the Czech Republic.
I can't figure out why the Serbs are favored. They have former first-rounder Bodgdan Bogdanovic, but he proved to be a bust in the NBA. Their best player is Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, but Andrew Bogut should shut him down easily.
I'm taking my boy Patty Mills and the Aussies.
