In last night's main event, Drew Pomeranz made his debut with Boston after arriving from San Diego in a trade that sent elite pitching prospect Andrew Espinosa to the Padres. Pomeranz, who earned a sport on the NL all-star team by posting a 2.47 ERA over 17 starts with San Diego, had a lackluster performance. The 6'5, 240 pound lefty cruised through the first three innings before allowing 5 runs on two homers in the fourth without recording an out. He was promptly replaced by reliever Robbie Ross.
The Red Sox were able to overcome Pomeranz' off night thanks to Hanley Ramirez, who had a career night with three home runs:
Hanley is having a good season, hitting .284 with 54 RBI's. It seems like I haven't heard much from Hanley since he won the MVP in 2013, but clearly he's been producing.
Look for Pomeranz to bounce back in his next start and propel this talented Red Sox team to a deep playoff run.
