Today we kept the strong week rolling, going a perfect 4-0. Let's take a look at what went right and what went wrong.
Cubs (-165) vs Mets
(Cubs 6-2 Mets)
As predicted, Kyle Hendricks and his nasty changeup proved unhittable for the Mets. Hendricks was helped by Terry Collins' decision to sit Yoenis Cespedes in order to rest him for the Marlins series Friday, as he tallied 7 strikeouts in 6 and 1/3 innings of no run baseball. Also, as expected the Cubs lineup came out with more of an urgency than did the Mets, striking early and often.
Indians (-135) vs Royals
(Indians 11-4 Royals)
The third Cy Young worthy member of Cleveland's rotation got the job done allowing one hit over 6 shutout innings. It was an unlikely candidate in Tyler Nayquist who carried the Indians offensively, tallying 6 RBIs.
Mariners (-175) vs White Sox
(Mariners 6-5 White Sox)
Although the numbers may not show it, Felix actually had a pretty good start in my eyes. For his first start in 2 months, Felix was throwing all of his pitches with good velocity and control--proven by making it nearly 7 innings without hitting the 100 pitch mark. It was a 3 run shot to last year's Home Run Derby champion, Todd Frazier, in the 1st that spoiled what would have been a very solid start. I'll admit when I'm wrong...this was definitely more of a shootout than a pitching duel. After falling behind early, the Mariners fought their way back to tie it up at 5 a piece and send it to extras. Leonys Martin turned out to be the hero, hitting a walk home run in the bottom of the 11th to move us to a perfect 3-0 on the day going into the Main Event matchup.
Red Sox -1.5 (-110) vs Giants
(Red Sox 11-7 Giants)
To finish off the day, the Red Sox bats took care of Bruce Bochy's Giants. Pomeranz had a strong outing going until the 4th when he gave up 2 homers totaling 5 runs. Hanley Ramirez put the team on his back with 3 homers and 6 RBIs to seal the win for Boston.
